Port Largo Ninth Annual Fishing Tournament Report - 2005

Port Largo held it’s ninth annual fishing tournament on Saturday May 28 out of the Port Largo Community Park.  The Port Largo Residential Property Owners Association hosts the event with the purpose building community spirit and getting the residents together in a fun family atmosphere.  The tournament was followed by a community picnic on Sunday where the catch was deep fried along with fritters and too many covered dishes to count.  An Awards ceremony was held and various donated prizes were given to the winners.  A good turnout and great fun was had by all.

Fifty-four anglers were registered in four different categories of anglers (adult, junior, pewee & guest).  First, second and third place certificates & trophies and prizes were available in the four categories.  Also a perpetual trophy was awarded for the angler with the largest dolphin.  Additionally, Sponsoring businesses throughout the upper keys contributed prizes, which were awarded as door prizes to nearly every angler.  The donated prizes made the tournament special.

Tournament rules provided for each angler to enter only two fish with a point system for dolphin, wahoo, tuna (1 pt. per lb.), grouper (2 pts. per lb.) and snapper (3 pts. per lb.). This helped level the playing field and allowed everyone to participate.

In the Pewee (10 & under). 
(note – a drawing was held for 2^nd and 3^rd place because no other fish were weighed.) 

• 1^st Place went to Ian Wilson with a 3.3 lbs Dolphin

In the Junior category (11 to 16),
(note – a drawing was held for 3^rd place because no other fish were weighed.) 

• 1^st place went to Chris Dillon with a 7.9 lbs Dolphin and 3.5 lbs Dolphin totally 11.4 pts
• 2^nd place went to Nikole Salas with a 7 lbs Dolphin and 4.3 lbs Dolphin totally 11.3 pts
• 3^rd place went to

In the Adult category

• 1^st place to Norbert Solis with 2 Grouper total 21 lbs  –  totally 42 pts
• 2nd place was Maggie Salas with 17.2 Dolphin and 7.2 lb. Snapper - totally 38.8 pts
• 3rd place went to Ann Henson with 23.9 lbs. Dolphin – totally 23.9 pts

• Best Female Angler Award went Maggie Salas with 17.2 Dolphin and 7.2 lb. Snapper. 
• The Best Boat Award went to Norbert Solis’. “Showtime”.
• The Perpetual Trophy for the Largest Dolphin went to Ann Henson with a 23.9 lb. Dolphin.
