The Board of your PORT LARGO RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY OWNER’S ASSOCIATION invites you to attend our Annual Meeting on February 10, 2001 at 10:30 AM at the Key Largo Civic Club, 209 Ocean Bay Drive. We will have speakers and will discuss issues and ongoing projects which affect our neighborhood. We want to hear your concerns and ideas about Port Largo!  Join us, and invite your neighbor!

GUEST SPEAKERS - Murray Nelson, Our new County Commissioner for District 5.

Ricardo Calvo, Project Engineer/Florida Keys Carrying Capacity Study

Dick Lancaster, President/Island of Key Largo Federation of Homeowner Associations

Marlene Conway/Monroe County Planning Board/Livable CommuniKeys Project

Dues for 2001 will remain at $100 and new keys for the Homeowner’s park will be available at our Annual Meeting. You may also mail in your membership form or you may contact Frances Simmons at 451-1790 or Ann Nickerson at 451-2604. Frances and Ann request that you call before coming to pick up your key. We also request that if you live here, you make the effort to pick up your key rather than ask that it be mailed to you. The Post Office requires a bubble envelope which, with the additional postage, increases our cost considerably. The park lock will be changed on February 24th, so be sure to pick up your new key before that date!

We will be holding elections for the Board of Directors of our Association. Volunteers are needed for board vacancies and for various committees. Please contact Gary Williams, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, at 451-5104 if you are willing to serve your community. Nominations from the floor are also welcomed and encouraged. To date, the following members have indicated they are willing to serve on our board:

John Wood             Frances Simmons             Marshall Walker

Mary Nelson          Gary Williams                   Cara Smith                     Ann Nickerson

Our FIFTH ANNUAL FISHING TOURNAMENT will be held Saturday, April 21, 2001. This year, our tournament has an expanded format from past years and is opened to other species and designed to encourage family fun, neighborhood involvement, and participation by all age groups - from the peewee category to the experienced angler. Look for entry forms and information at our Annual Meeting! If you have questions, contact Al Herum, Tournament Chairman by email: al@fishkeylargo.com or by phone at 451-1800. Remember, you must be a member of our association to participate in this tournament. What’s that? - - you’re not a member?? Call Frances at 451-1790 and she’ll get you hooked up!! Applications will also be mailed out with our March Newsletter. On the following day, Sunday, April 22, 2001 at 2:00 PM, our ANNUAL PICNIC will be held at our Homeowner’s Park. Soft drinks, beer, ice, hot dogs and charcoal will be provided by the association. Hopefully, we’ll have fish donated from our tournament to fry along with hushpuppies again this year. Bring a covered dish and a chair - and enjoy a great day with your neighbors! Everyone is welcome! Mark your calendar now with these dates!

We would like everyone in our community to receive our Newsletter. It’s a challenge to keep up with all the new owners. You can help by letting us know about additions or corrections to our mailing list (new residents, address changes, phone numbers, etc.). Please call Mary Nelson at 451-9316 with any new information.

2000 ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

1) We finally broke 200 and now have 204 members in our association!! Keep up the good work! Ask your neighbors to join and speak with anyone new in your neighborhood about joining us. And remember, your association needs volunteers!

2) At our Homeowners Park, we’ve completed major dock repairs and we’ve improved on their design. Additional landscaping was added along with a shed to store necessary items to maintain and enjoy our park. Thank you, John Wood and Tim Cale!

3) Our FOURTH ANNUAL DOLPHIN TOURNAMENT and PICNIC on April 15th and 16th was a huge success with lots of prizes for the young participants! Thank you, John Wood - for a job very well done handling all the many details as our Tournament Chairman! As usual the fish was delicious (Thanks, Red Peel!) and all the covered dishes were yummy! We all had a great time!

4) We have increased the fund balance in reserve to $16,885 to be available for emergencies, particularly storm damage to our homeowner’s park.

5) Thanks again to Sue Cunningham, Holly Trejo and Lynne Marr for our Second Annual "Let’s Decorate the Neighborhood" Contest during the Christmas holidays! There were many decorated homes with homeowners receiving prizes from local business owners who co-sponsored this event with our association. Thanks to all of you who went all out decorating with the beautiful Christmas themes!
